How I Found My True Love

By: James Dean Rivera

How I found my true love wasn’t easy. It took a very long period of time to find my true love. I had been in many tumultuous relationships. Many which only made it out of a year if I was lucky. It always seemed to follow the same pattern: Either they had no job, they did have a job but did not have to advance or they had no job, multiple kids and expected their significant other to take care of them. At first I did not mind this because they seemed to be fulfilling my needs sexually. However I began to realize as I got older that sex wasn’t everything.

Also, I began to realize that there was more to relationships than just intercourse. There had to be love, commitment, setting goals and building a life together. I was never going to get that with anyone I had previously went out with. I failed and failed many times in what turned out to be a conquest, my journey to finding love. But I did not give up hope that my true love would be waiting in the wings. I envisioned her being over 30, no kids never married, loved to travel and was career and goal oriented. I highly believed that it would manifest.

My friend Ana whom I’ve known since I was 16 and she was 18 referred me to the Tinder app. Me personally I was not partial to any dating sites, honestly I’m still not. However when she showed me her profile and I saw the results she was getting, I thought why not give it a try? I even asked her assistance on guiding me through the process. Here I was thinking it would be a long process which I was willing to be patient for. However, that would soon be finished much faster than I expected. Enter Nina.

Nina had her own social media business called Nina Online . She still does. She was in her 30s, never married had children wanted to travel. Although she already been around the world and has lived in Thailand, traveled to Australia and Myanmar, she never had a significant other to travel with. Well she was just in luck cause she was just what I was looking for. Sure there may have been a few other tinder dates before her but nothing came out of It at all. Nina was the one I had my eyes set on. And it was on August 18th 2016 where we met in person!!!!!

We went out to this Asian Fusion restaurant called Penthouse 808. I gave her cally lilies as it was her 35th birthday coming up in 2 days. She had on this beautiful red and black flower dress. She looked so beautiful with her hair done. She was so happy and smiling. I was infatuated by her beauty and her personality. I only knew her for a few hours but I was already in love. Little did I know she felt the same about me.

We had went to the movies in Manhattan to see suicide squad. Then I dropped her off by Penn Station. She had a long ride home for she lived in Islip Long island at the time. In Suffolk County almost 3 hours away from Brooklyn and almost 2 hours away from Manhattan. But before her scheduled train arrived, she kissed me on the lips for maybe 15 to 20 seconds. A woman making the first move on me. That had never happened before. However I appreciated the moment and I was looking forward to more dates with her.

After a few more dates, we became official. On September 11th to be exact. Weve been together ever since. We moved in with each other on December 2017. We’ve traveled around the world to Dominican Republic, Italy, Greece, Montreal, Puerto Rico even London although that was 8 hours layover in the airport on the way to Greece. We cultivated such a great relationship of love trust and support. Both our families support us and what’s even better, now we are engaged.

We will soon be husband and wife. Date is set for next year around our 5 year anniversary. She has been such an inspiration in my life. Without her encouragement, I would never be a published poet nor writing these type of articles. My goals would cease to exist. She has been a true miracle and a revelation. I am proud to have met her. I want to grow old with her have children and become grandparents too. To live a long life of fulfillment and prosperity!! In closing, thank you so much Ana for introducing me to the dating app. Without you there would be no Nina or this great love story!!!!! I hope this article helps those who are lost in hope and never feel they’ll find love. You are worthy of true love. Never give up there are always opportunities abound for everyone.

Single Love

By: Jalissa Carter

Savoring a touch, so surreal.

A mind that’s connected to the image of you, like a video reel.

A beaten used book that unfolds a fairy tale beneath the pages. It amazes the hopeless romantic, the roaring fanatic.

She has a traumatic wind up heart.

Crying for love from the inside out.

To cherish and to hold onto fantasied memories.

Awaken from a series of dream experiences.

Her reality is without him.

She is surrounded by rose petals.

In the palm of her hand is it’s broken stem.

Soon after like a single dollar bill she embraces what’s real.

Erasing the figments of her imagination. The start of a solo valentines vacation. Be Queen and love your single life situation. The King for you will come soon, be patient. It’s the beginning of a chapter titled self love adoration.

JALISSA CARTER is a poet, writer, and author of the new book “Poetic-Li.” She lives in a charming mountain town of Northwest Arkansas with her husband, their beautiful daughters and pet fish.

Your Validation Isn’t Needed and Definitely not your Sarcasm!

By: Patrice Rivers

What does the world think of you?

Does it really matter what the validations and opinions are without thinking it through?

Be yourself

Never change what the world says about you

Authentically You

Without having to change you

I wrote this poem because the world and worldly people are always judging for no reason. We have to learn to tune out all of the negativity and negative people that always wants to put us down. I recently had an encounter with a lady (African-American) on the phone. She wanted to speak to someone and didn’t even know the person’s first name when I asked her and was a little unsure about the department she wanted to speak to. A lot of people aren’t clear to what they want or need, so I wanted to make sure that was the right department. Did you know she had the nerve to comment sarcastically “You must be new!” I told her that I have been working here for a year so I wasn’t really new. It will be two years in April as a matter of fact. She responded “Yes that’s still new” The fact that she tried to belittle me to thinking I didn’t know what I was talking about is a good reason why I try to separate myself from people like that and some women as well all because of the ignorance.

Just because I didn’t know what she was referring to doesn’t mean I don’t know how to do my job. That’s why it’s very important to remain positive and keep focused.  One thing I do is silence people by not speaking to them at all!  My inner peace and sanity is too important to allow people to distract me.  Be careful who you talk to and deal with in life because everyone doesn’t have your best interest at heart.  Don’t allow anyone to ruin your inner peace and definitely don’t allow the world to tell you who you are and what you are!  Just like the lady I spoke with on the phone, she was negative and belittling and definitely an example of a major distraction!

Love Is An Action Word

By: Jasi Green

When I go to sleep every night, the left side of my bed is empty. When I wake each morning, no one is there; well most times I find myself diagonally across. The point is, Sis isn’t missing any sleep. Am I looking for someone to wake up too every morning; absolutely not. One of the best things a woman can do is fall so deep in love with the woman she is, becoming or have evolved into. Self love is the best love.

Yes, I love the concept of black love but until one is whole, they are are not ready to unconditionally love someone else. Jasmin, three years ago did not have this mindset. Shoutout to my glow up!

One cannot be selfless with loving thyself first. The foundation to any great relationship, whether romantically or platonically, is self love. Self care is also essential.

My journey to self love began when I became committed to achieving goals. I had a lot of baggage to unpack, hypothetically speaking. It was not something achievable by saying, “Today I’m going to me be a better Jasmin”. That route failed many times. Your intentions are not a reflection of your actions, in such instances.

Women are natural born nurturers. We are molded to put our feelings on the back burner to care for others. The hardest part is admitting you’re accepting less than you deserve and walking away. We complain and cry instead of taking action because then we have to take accountability. Instead of seeking validation, seek self love.

Lack of self-love increases risk of suicide according to the American Association of Suicidology. The association conducted a study in 2008 which researched the impact of low self-esteem and lack of self-love and its relation to suicidal tendencies and attempts. My blog, Fall In Love With Yourself First, provides resources to those in need.

How much do you value and appreciate yourself? Love is an action word. Self love is appreciation of this action.

Start Up information For Entrepreneurs

By: Rosalyn L Farmer

Most likely you have already identified a business idea, so now it’s time to balance it with a little reality. Does your idea have the potential to succeed? You will need to run your business idea through a validation process before you go any further.

In order for a small business to be successful, it must solve a problem, fulfill a need or offer something the market wants.

There are a number of ways you can identify this need, including research, focus groups, and even trial and error. As you explore the market, some of the questions you should answer include:

Is there a need for your anticipated products/services?

Who needs it?

Are there other companies offering similar products/services now?

What is the competition like?

How will your business fit into the market?

Don’t forget to ask yourself some questions, too, about starting a business before you take the plunge.

Make a Plan!

You need a plan in order to make your business idea a reality. A business plan is a blueprint that will guide your business from the start-up phase through establishment and eventually business growth, and it is a must-have for all new businesses.

Starting a small business doesn’t have to require a lot of money, but it will involve some initial investment as well as the ability to cover ongoing expenses before you are turning a profit. Put together a spreadsheet that estimates the one-time startup costs for your business (licenses and permits, equipment, legal fees, insurance, branding, market research, inventory, trademarking, grand opening events, property leases, etc.), as well as what you anticipate you will need to keep your business running for at least 12 months (rent, utilities, marketing and advertising, production, supplies, travel expenses, employee salaries, your own salary, etc.).

Your small business can be a sole proprietorship, a partnership, a limited liability company (LLC) or a corporation. The business entity you choose will impact many factors from your business name, to your liability, to how you file your taxes.

You may choose an initial business structure, and then reevaluate and change your structure as your business grows and needs change

Once your business is up and running, you need to start attracting clients and customers. You’ll want to start with the basics by writing a unique marketing plan. Then, explore as many small business marketing ideas as possible so you can decide how to promote your business most effectively.

Once you have completed these business start-up activities, you will have all of the most important bases covered. Keep in mind that success doesn’t happen overnight. But use the plan you’ve created to consistently work on your business, and you will increase your chances of success.

How To Win In Business

By Rosalyn L. Farmer

Every single time someone asks me how I’ve managed to be so successful in business, I’m quick to tell them my secret. Are you ready?

It’s … consistency.

I know, it’s very simple. But just because it’s simple doesn’t mean it’s easy and I truly believe that’s why so many people do not have the success they want in their business. They just don’t put in the necessary work over and over again to make it grow.

Maybe you have seen the positive effects of consistency in someone’s business and want to be more consistent in your own, but you just aren’t sure how. Today I want to tell you all about how I manage to stay so consistent in my business.

Mindset is the key to success. If you are ready to make a change and go forward with determination, you can be unstoppable. I’ve seen it in my own business and many others.

Know your WHY.

Why are you doing this? What dreams do you have? What do you want your life to look like in one year, two years? Five years? This why should be strong enough to push you past the feelings you WILL get that say “I can do that later.” What makes you push through the resistance

Realize that consistent efforts will show the world that you are serious about your business and you are in it for the long haul.

Know that it plays a vital role in the perception others have on you and your business. No one wants to work with someone who is on again, off again.

Create short term goals.

One month goals and three month goals. That will keep your eye on a smaller prize that will lead to the bigger prizes that will come through your consistency.

Give it enough time.

Expect that through consistent action taken over 6-12 months that you WILL see massive results. People are watching, wondering if you’ll stick with it. Once they see that you absolutely are, they’ll start coming out of the woodwork.

Be accountable to your upline. Let them know your goals and ask them to check in with you and prod you when you aren’t doing the key steps that will build your business.

Celebrate your successes!

So many people skip right over them and move on to the next but it’s vital you celebrate and acknowledge your work and efforts. I like to reward myself when I’ve achieved a big goal. Could be anything! A new purse, a nice date night out, massage …

CELEBRATE YOU !  Be consistent and Be Great.

Learning Self-Identity within Teens

By Patrice Rivers

There are a lot of teens who may be struggling with self-identity and is afraid because of what others may feel or think of them.  Why should any teen be put in that category of having a teen identity crisis? Between the ages of 13-18, a lot of teens are looking for self-acceptance and learning more about morals, values, their sexuality or their personality to fit into the “world’s society” of how people may view them.

In today’s society the look of one’s identity may be more challenging and confusing.  There are five ways for teens to build a sense of self-worth. The first is experiencing of anxiety and perfectionism according to some teens expect that things they do and how they should become should be perfect, but in reality they just need to prepare for their future lives. The second thing is seeing beyond themselves can boost their self-esteem.  Developing self-esteem is a major factor in teenagers.  They want to feel some type of self-worth when around others and their peers.  For example, if a teen doesn’t like how they look or if their weight is a little over for their age, they may feel like they aren’t worthy because of what society may view them as.  They need to know that they are special and unique in their own way.  The third thing is focusing on self-compassion instead of self-esteem.  Teens should learn how to embrace themselves and love themselves so that when they get older, self-worth won’t be a major issue.  That’s why it’s very important for teens to embrace family because certain structures, family values and morals.

Teen Identity Development is when teens define themselves in terms of values, believes and roles. They are starting to develop a sense of who they are and what they stand for. Avoiding social comparison is healthy as well but a lot of teens will face this around their peers and at school. This is something normal and is looking for plenty of ways for the world and people surrounding them to accept them. Self-comparison can lead to stress and even depression if it isn’t discussed with family members or a guidance counselor at school.

Alongside of identifying themselves, teens also go through identity issues such as seeking status symbols meaning having the latest trends or materialistic things to prove themselves to others, rebellion which a lot of teens (including myself) go through.  It’s like a phase of finding themselves and that may require making their own decisions and experimenting things that may not always be healthy. Having idols are common issues as well want to look up to people and things that will give them some type of confidence, boost and motivation. Cliques areanother identity issue because a lot of teens hang out with certain groups of people just to make them feel powerful and cool.

The process of developing a teen identity has many challenges and may not always lead to the right decisions in life, but in order to find out what’s best for teens, they must venture out on their own.  Every teen must develop their own sense of humor, personality and self-worth on their own while building healthy relationships, being in healthy environments and paying attention to their own behaviors.
